The National Youth Event 2008 in Knoxville, Tennessee was a smash hit for the 28 youth and 6 adult chaperones who attended through the Rocky Mountain Conference (RoMoCo) UCC. After 25 hours on a bus the event began with a bang from contemporary Christian rock band Starfield, and the energy didn't stop. Other performers such as tried and true Lost & Found brought their eclectic "speedwood" music to the event providing much laughter and meaningful worship. There's nothing quite like worshipping with the energy provided by 2,800 youth from around the UCC's 39 conferences… it makes a pastor wish every worship service had that many youth. Rev. Dr. John Thomas was even there to give his accolades to the powerful work and witness the youth bring to NYE 08 and other national UCC events. Many thanks to those who helped support the bus trip to NYE 08 - without your help this trip would not have happened.
So be prepared to look to the future, folks. General Synod is next June in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the town I was born and raised within. Plans are in the works for a youth contingent to the General Synod. It's a town to see and an event to behold. Encourage your youth to get involved. Perhaps we'll schedule another bus trip through the RoMoCo and bring the energy to Grand Rapids in 2009! Thanks once again for all your support!
