A Bus for Cuba

PaintingTheBusForCuba

Parker United Church of Christ, a new startup church, is participating in The Pastors for Peace Cuba Friendship Caravan. This is a nationwide nondenominational project providing humanitarian aid for the people of Cuba.

Preparations begin with painting a school bus at the Mainstreet Center parking lot on Saturday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. next to the historic Ruth Memorial Chapel, 19670 E. Mainstreet. The school bus will be loaded with medical and educational supplies, computers, construction tools, infant needs and other needed items - and many volunteers.

The journey will begin in Parker on its way to Cuba by way of a third country, to avoid the current 40 year US embargo on Cuba. Once the bus arrives in Cuba and the supplies have been distributed, the bus will be donated to a needy school as part of a concerted effort to show the children of Cuba that Americans care about them, regardless of current government policies.

Residents of Parker area are invited to donate goods and help paint the bus.

The timeline for this project is as follows:

May 31 -- Painting of the bus at the Ruth Memorial Chapel, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be served.

June 1, 8, and 22 -- Information distribution and supply collection at Parker UCC's Parker Fest Booth.

June 22 -- Parker UCC welcomes Rev. Diane Baker, veteran caravanistas from Dallas.

June 22 -- Caravan Celebration and kick off, 1 p.m. at Parker UCC Parker Fest Booth.
