Rev. Felix E. Ortiz-Cotto
Area Executive for Latin America/Caribbean Partner
Relations Ministry Team, Wider Church Ministries

Rev. Ortiz-Cotto is the Executive for the Latin America and the Caribbean Office of the Common Global Ministries Board, a common witness of the Wider Church Ministries of the United Church of Christ and the Division of Overseas Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. He was appointed to this position on August 1, 2003, after serving for 18 years as missionary in Latin America and the Caribbean. In this position he is responsible for exploring and developing opportunities for mutual ministries; to know and understand the personnel, programs, and priorities involved in the area; to participate in the appropriate structures of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the United States (NCCCUSA), and to share ecumenical decision-making with regard to relationships and programs with counterparts of many other US denominations.

Rev. Ortiz-Cotto attended the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, 1969-1975, receiving a B.A. degree in humanities. His Masters in Divinity was earned at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico, Hato Rey, 1976.
Rev. Ortiz-Cotto was ordained by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Puerto Rico in 1976.

His work experience includes:

1971-1974      Pastor, Sabana Gardens Church (Disciples of Christ), Bayamón, Puerto Rico

1974-1977      Pastor, Brecha Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Guaynabo, Puerto Rico

1977-1984      Pastor, Hato Tejas Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Bayamón, Puerto Rico

1985-1989      Pastor and coordinator of a national program for the development of ministerial leadership, Division of Overseas Ministries

1989-1998      Program Consultant for the Disciples of Christ Development Committee of Haiti, Division of Overseas Ministries and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Puerto Rico

1999-2003      Pastoral and technical representative for projects in the Caribbean and Mesoamerica, Church World Service and Witness of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, Global Ministries

2003-Present  Executive, Latin America and the Caribbean, United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada

 

Rev. Ortiz-Cotto married Maria Esther Cruzado-Amador, also a former Global Ministries missionary, on June 29, 1974. They have two grown children, Ernesto A. and Felix E. Ortiz. They are currently active members of Iglesia Hermandad Cristiana (Disciples of Christ) in Indianapolis.
