Receives Peacemaker of the Year Award

The Justice and Witness Ministry Team is pleased to announce the 2009 Rocky Mountain Conference Peacemaker of the Year recipient. This recipient was born in China to a Medical Missionary. She spent time in Pilgrim Fellowship with Bruce Mackenzie. She attended Pomona College. She graduated from Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania, now known as Drexel University School of Medicine. In addition to her mother, her sister, one son and aunt are physicians. This year’s peacemaker has practiced general medicine, inner-city maternal and child health care, college health care for 20 years at the University of Denver which has a mandatory health fee and thus a single payer universal health insurance plan. Our awardee has been involved in clinical teaching, and rural community health clinics in the underserved Nederland and Black Hawk area. She has traveled in Norway, Finland, Netherlands and Scotland to study their national health plans, learning first hand their problems and successes. You who just voted unanimously to support the Single Payer plan expressed in HR 676 at the General Synod meeting probably know of the genius of Single Payer because of the efforts of this wonderful Health Professional who tirelessly has nurtured Health Care for All Colorado, an effective group advocating for Health Care Reform. Dr. Elinor Christiansen is our 2009 Rocky Mountain Conference Peacemaker of the year.
